Matthew Wheatley
Matthew Wheatley graduated with a first class BSc Honours Degree in Osteopathic Medicine from the Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine. Since graduating he has worked in the UK and abroad treating adults of all ages.
As well as treating back, neck, joint and muscular pain Matthew has an interest in treating sports and occupational injuries, symptoms of osteoarthritis, headaches and migraines.
Matthew believes in providing his patients with a thorough understanding of their diagnosis and proposed treatment plan.
Matthew is Registered with the General Osteopathic Council and is a member of the British Osteopathic Association.
Osteopathy
Founded over 100 years ago by the American doctor Andrew Taylor Still in 1993, Osteopathy became the first of the complementary medical professions to achieve statutory regulation. It now has one regulatory body: the General Osteopathic Council (GosC)
Osteopaths apply a range of manual techniques to primarily treat disorders in the human body’s musculo-skeletal structure, but also problems with the underlying soft tissue and internal organs. We believe in the body’s inherent ability to heal itself, and the techniques used, aim to set the best conditions for recovery.
What Happens During Consultation/Treatment?
The Osteopath will take a comprehensive case history including details such as lifestyle and diet. The patient will then be asked to undress to their underwear so that a physical examination can take place. Factors such as posture, tissue tone, spine, and joint mobility will also be taken into account to enable a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
What Kind of Problems Do Osteopaths Treat?
Osteopathy can treat a range of physical conditions, such as sports injuries, back and neck pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, and other less obvious problems including changes to posture due to pregnancy, or sleeplessness, asthma and digestive disorders!
